The Space
The Batcave is a grand Toorak estate where heritage architecture meets contemporary design in a setting created for high-end events, immersive experiences and cinematic productions. Thoughtfully reimagined, the space preserves the elegance and scale of the original residence while introducing modern architectural elements that open the interiors to light, volume and connection with the surrounding gardens.
The front of the home honours its heritage character with beautifully proportioned rooms and refined architectural detailing. At its heart, the original ballroom has been transformed into a striking bar and lounge, finished in soft white tones and designed for entertaining. Nearby, the dining and billiards rooms were created by opening previously smaller spaces, allowing natural light to flow while introducing colour and depth to the interiors.
The design language throughout the home is shaped by geometry drawn from the original architecture. Triangulated forms appear in bespoke joinery and in distinctive leadlight motifs that run through walls and windows, creating a subtle dialogue between past and present. In the master suite, bush hammered stone surfaces are paired with a dramatic glass skylight ceiling, inviting natural light and the morning sky into the space.
A contemporary extension continues the home’s architectural narrative. A glass volume sits seamlessly alongside the original façade, creating a generous entertaining area filled with natural light. Oriented to capture northern sun, this new wing opens toward the gardens and softens the transition between indoors and outdoors.
Outside, landscaped grounds provide colour and texture inspired by the owners’ contemporary art collection. Perennial planting and open garden spaces create an elegant setting for outdoor gatherings, brand launches and large-scale productions, while maintaining the privacy and prestige expected of a landmark Toorak residence.
With its blend of heritage grandeur, modern architectural intervention and expansive entertaining zones, The Batcave offers a rare and versatile backdrop suited to luxury events, editorial campaigns, film productions and immersive creative experiences.
