The Space

There’s more to this country homestead than meets the eye. Settled in 1860, Craignair is rich in history. Known as “The Knoll”, the original house on the east side of Mount Macedon was built for Madame Pfund, headmistress of Oberwyl, an exclusive girls’ school in St Kilda. It is also believed to have once belonged to Dame Nellie Melba, a world famous opera singer, who appears on our $100 note. Rebuilt after the 1983 Ash Wednesday fire left just the foundations, the property was reconstructed to replicate its original specifications and return it to its former glory.
