Solstice
Torquay, VIC, Australia
The Space
A sculptural concrete residence emerging from the eucalypt canopy above Torquay, along the Great Ocean Road. Solstice is built around light — 20 metres of curved floor to ceiling glazing wraps the upper living level, pulling the treetops inside and tracking the sun across the full arc of the day. Board formed concrete walls, soaring ceilings and circular concrete columns give the structure a presence that reads as genuinely architectural from every angle.
Across three levels, the interior moves between distinct environments with real variety. The open plan living area is anchored by ochre boucle sofas, a terrazzo floor and warm timber joinery, with the tree canopy visible from every position in the room. A burgundy and mustard cinema and bar adds a more intimate, moodier setting within the same property, while the bedrooms are calm and editorial by contrast — each a composed environment in its own right. Original artwork throughout adds colour and specificity that removes the need for additional styling.
Outside, a circular plunge pool set among tropical greenery, a BBQ area and a fire pit extend the shooting range into the landscape. The surrounding eucalypt canopy provides natural privacy and a backdrop that shifts with the light across the day and into evening.
A property of genuine architectural distinction — one that offers the material depth, spatial variety and visual drama to support ambitious productions across a single location.
